BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING<\/b><\/p>\n

Our water system routinely monitors for the presence of drinking water contaminants to ensure the safety of the water supply.\u00a0 On September 6, 2013 we were notified that \u00a0E. coli was detected in one of our distribution system samples.\u00a0 While we test more samples and evaluate the water system operation, we are advising our customers to BOIL the water to reduce any potential risk to bacterial or viral contamination.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What should you do?<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute<\/b>, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.\u00a0 Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice<\/b>. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.<\/p>\n

Discard any ice, beverages, formula, and uncooked foods that were prepared with water from the public water system on or after September 5, 2013.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk and should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA\u2019s <\/b><\/p>\n

may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, <\/i><\/p>\n

schools and businesses).\u00a0 You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.<\/i><\/p>\n


\n<\/b><\/p>\n

What does this mean?<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>E. coli is a fecal indicator and it was detected in the distribution system.\u00a0 \u00a0Because a fecal indicator was detected the USEPA requires us to provide you with this Notice and the following information on fecal indicators. \u201cFecal coliforms and E. coli are bacteria \u00a0whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes.\u00a0 Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms.\u00a0 They may pose a special health risk to infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coliforms are bacteria which are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially-harmful bacteria may be present.\u00a0 Coliforms were found in more sample than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems.<\/p>\n

These symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water.\u00a0 If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is being done?<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>We are working with law enforcement and the Department of Environmental Protection to investigate\/ resolve this issue.\u00a0 We have begun chlorinating the entire distribution system today, Friday, September 6, 2013.\u00a0 In addition, we are evaluating all available information and conducting tests to confirm the extent of the contamination of the system.\u00a0 We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water.\u00a0 We anticipate resolving the problem within 48 hours.<\/p>\n
