Fire and Emergency services for the Village of Cotuit, in the Town of Barnstable
Open burning season begins January 15th. Permits a Open burning season begins January 15th. Permits are issued on a daily basis. Be sure to call the station prior to burning to check the weather conditions and if permits are being issued for the day. All are welcome to stop by the station to learn more about open burning safety and regulations.

The statue was constructed and donated by Tom Simoene with assistance from Keith Magyar, Keith Harris, Bob Nelson, and Susan McCarthy. The team constructs and donates these fun statues to public safety agencies throughout the Cape and Islands. We thank the team for this generous gift and encourage the community to stop by and check it out.

Two off duty members reported to the station and were dispatched to a two alarm fire in Falmouth. The off duty members and DC Clark assisted Falmouth Fire with searching adjacent units, and overhaul.

We remain committed to training to ensure we are ready to answer the call in our community and neighboring communities if requested.
The past week was a full week of training at CFD. The past week was a full week of training at CFD. Our members trained with our mutual aid partners from Mashpee and COMM Fire on Tuesday. On Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting ten high school students from Barnstable, Mashpee, and Cape Cod Tech. With the aid of a smoke machine, and house scheduled for demolition, we provided training in fire suppression, search, self rescue, and ventilation all in zero visibility.
With the arrival of cooler weather, precipitation, With the arrival of cooler weather, precipitation, and increased humidity, the ban on outdoor cooking fires has been lifted. This includes fires associated with fire pits, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, and cooking and heating equipment that are not specifically covered under 310 CMR 7.07, the Open Burning regulation. Open burning as covered under 310 CMR 7.07 (yard brush/forestry debris) is still limited to January 15 to May of each year and requires appropriate weather conditions. Please always use caution when kindling a fire. Keep fires away from structures and have a means to extinguish the fire.

This award is well deserved for their commitment to the residents of Cotuit. Last nights crew worked tirelessly throughout the Last nights crew worked tirelessly throughout the night, assisting the Hyannis Fire Department with a challenging second alarm wind driven fire. Working with our neighboring communities through the cape’s strong mutual aid system is crucial to effective fire suppression and the protection of life and property.
Capt. McPherson and FF/Melanson introduced basic f Capt. McPherson and FF/Melanson introduced basic firefighting skills to local high school students. Our high school intern program is vital to the growth of the fire service on the cape and islands and the continued protection of our village and surrounding communities.
Given the current and expected weather conditions, Given the current and expected weather conditions, the Cotuit Fire is prohibiting outdoor burning until further notice. This includes fires associated with fire pits, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, and cooking and heating equipment that are not specifically covered under 310 CMR 7.07, the Open Burning regulation. This Ban is due to the unprecedented weather conditions that we have been experiencing and will continue to experience through at least this Friday. The lack of rain, low humidity, and wind conditions create favorable conditions for wildfires to spread. We also urge everyone to use extra caution and appropriate containment when disposing of fireplace/woodstove ashes and smoking materials.

FF/Gardiner and FF/Deeg showed the students what to expect if they see a firefighter in their gear, shared fire safety tips, and what to do if there is a fire in the home.

Friday was a great day at Cotuit Fire. The members Friday was a great day at Cotuit Fire. The members of the department built a firefighting prop for our young supporters and participated in the Cotuit Library Olympic Hunger Games. Afterwards they were recognized by the Kettleers, and our recent high school intern was selected to throw the first pitch.

The Cotuit Fire Department is pleased to announce The Cotuit Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $27,159.04 grant to purchase a Lucas Chest Compression System. We were notified by FEMA this morning of the award through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program. The grant will allow both ambulances to be equipped with this life saving system and also ensure that we have a back up device if the unit on the primary ambulance has to be down for service.
