The Cotuit Water Department will be flushing water mains in Cotuit Commons today, Monday, August 24, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Recent construction activity in the area has caused vibration of the water mains, which can disturb naturally occurring sediment and result in temporary water discoloration. Flushing the mains will help clear this sediment from the system.
Residents in the affected area are advised to:
Set aside water in advance for drinking and cooking.
Refrain from using water while flushing is actively taking place, particularly for laundry, dishwashing, or other uses that could draw discolored water into your hot water tank.
Check your water for clarity before resuming normal use.
If you experience discolored water after flushing has been completed, wait until after 4:00 PM and run COLD water through a high-volume faucet, such as a bathtub, until the water runs clear.
Flushing signs will be posted in the area. Please use caution and be mindful of our operators working along the roadway.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
