FLUSHING NOTICE

FLUSHING LOCATIONS FOR TUESDAY APRIL 15, 2014

 FLUSHING WILL TAKE PLACE TODAY FROM 9:30 AM UNTIL 4:00 PM AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:  THE END OF MAIN STREET TOWARDS RTE. 28,  ALL OF SANTUIT-NEWTOWN ROAD, RTE. 28 FROM THE WATER DEPARTMENT OFFICE TO STATION #5 (ACROSS FROM HONEY-DEW DONUTS).

 FLUSHING SIGNS WILL BE VISIBLE IN THESE AREAS.  RESIDENTS IN THESE AREAS ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM LAUNDERING BETWEEN 9 AM AND 4 PM AND TO SET WATER ASIDE FOR DRINKING AND COOKING PURPOSES.

    ALL RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK WATER CLARITY BEFORE USE, WHILE THIS PROGRAM IS IN OPERATION, AS WATER LINES  OUTSIDE THE FLUSHING AREA COULD BE AFFECTED.

FLUSHING LOCATIONS FOR MONDAY APRIL 14, 2014

 

WATER MAIN FLUSHING BEGINS TODAY. THE MEN WILL BE FLUSHING FROM 9:00 AM UNTIL 4:00 PM IN THE WELL FIELDS WHERE THE PUMPING STATIONS ARE LOCATED.

 

ALTHOUGH THEY WILL NOT BE FLUSHING OUT IN THE VILLAGE, TODAY, ALL RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK WATER CLARITY BEFORE USE, WHILE THIS PROGRAM IS IN OPERATION, AS WATER LINES OUTSIDE THE FLUSHING AREA COULD BE AFFECTED.

WATER MAIN FLUSHING NOTICE

The Cotuit Water Department will be flushing water mains (weather permitting) from:

Monday, April 14, 2014 – Friday, June 13, 2014

                        9 AM – 4 PM   Monday through Friday

 Water main flushing is part of a preventive maintenance program being undertaken by the Water Department to ensure that water quality is not being compromised.

 Discoloration of the water may occur.  This is an unavoidable effect of flushing, with an aesthetic value only, and is not considered a health hazard. The water should clear after a short period of time.

Signs will be visible in flushing areas.  Residents in these areas are advised to refrain from laundering between 9 am and 4 pm  and to set water aside for drinking and cooking purposes.

 All village residents are advised to check water clarity before use, while this program is in operation, as water lines outside the flushing area could be affected.

 Flushing locations will be posted daily on cotuitfiredistrict.org.

 We appreciate the cooperation of our customers and apologize for any inconvenience.

Minutes from Water Commissioner’s 2/20/14 Meeting

2/20/14

 

The monthly meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners was held at Freedom Hall at 5 PM with all members present. Superintendent Chris Wiseman was also present.

The January minutes were approved.

The warrants were signed.

There were no coliform and no MTBE detections during the month. Chlorination will continue until further notice.

The following information was included in the Superintendent’s report:

……………There was one replacement service and one repair.

Mr. Campbell departed at 5:30.

Discussion continued on the condition of the Main Street tank.  Mr. Barnicle made a motion to accept a proposal from Haley and Ward to further assess the condition of the tank, pending the Superintendent’s approval of the scope of work and timeframe and not to exceed $5,000. Mr. Kiely seconded the motion and it was so voted.

Discussion was held on the total coliform situation.  Mr. Barnicle made a motion to accept the contract from Tata & Howard for services that will investigate the source of the coliform detections.  Mr. Kiely seconded the motion and it was so voted.

Discussion was held on the situation at the Newtown Road tank.  Mr. Wiseman informed the Board that he has had some freeze-up issues inside the building and needs to have an inside enclosure built around certain interior elements.

After Mr. Wiseman presented one proposal for architectural design and drawings, Mr. Barnicle made a motion requesting two more proposals.  Mr. Kiely seconded the motion and it was so voted.

Discussion continued on Open Cape’s position in conjunction with the security system. Mr. Wiseman was asked to obtain fiber optic mapping from the Town of Barnstable.

Discussion continued on the West Street tank.  Mr. Wiseman presented a proposal from Utility Services to provide an asset management program.  The Board took it under advisement.  Mr. Wiseman presented other storage tank painting projects that had been completed recently.

Discussion continued on the office manager’s upcoming retirement.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 5:00 at Freedom Hall.

COLIFORM DETECTION INVESTIGATION UPDATE

COLIFORM DETECTION  INVESTIGATION UPDATE….

Recently, the Water Department had an initial consultation with the firm of Tata & Howard, experts in the water field, to discuss the situation with  coliform detections over the past year. At their February meeting, the Board of Water Commissioners signed an agreement with them that provides a scope of work to assist us in the investigation of the source of these detections.

The monthly meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners was held at Freedom Hall at 5 PM with all members present. Superintendent Chris Wiseman was also present.

The December minutes were approved.

The warrants were signed.

There was one coliform detection during the month.  The chlorination process began immediately following the detection. Repeat samples were absent of coliform. Chlorination will continue until further notice. There were no MTBE detections for the month.

The following information was included in the Superintendent’s report:

PUMPAGE       December                2013  – 8,492,000          2012 – 7,829,000

……………There was one new service installation and five replacement services.

……………The reports on the monitoring wells at Stratford Ponds show that they are in compliance at the present time.

……………The 3rd and final phase of development has begun in the Cotuit Meadows subdivision.

At 5:30 Leo Yuskus, from Haley & Ward and Peter Reynolds from McKenzie Engineering arrived to discuss their structural analysis report on the Main Street tank. They departed at 6:05.

Discussion continued on Open Cape’s fiber optics contract which is still at Attorney Mann’s office being reviewed for language refinement.  Mr. Wiseman was asked to obtain prices to install fiber optics at the stations.

At 6:30, George Gamache, owner and developmental consultant of the 671 Main Street project, Bob Welch, project manager and Dan McGrath introduced themselves.  They assured the Board that all the stipulations outlined in the easement to protect station #3 and surrounding watershed will be adhered to. Mr. McGrath stated that he would bring the latest septic plan to the water department office.  They departed at 6:55 p.m.

Discussion continued on the West Street tank.  Mr. Barnicle presented comparison costs of tearing down the tank versus refurbishing it. Mr. Wiseman was asked to obtain more price information on the refurbishment process.

The office manager’s impending retirement was discussed.  Mr. Wiseman was asked to obtain a copy of her job description and list of skills needed for the position and present them at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 5:00 at Freedom Hall.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Minutes from Water Commissioner’s 12/26/13 Meeting

12/26/13

 

The monthly meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners was held at Freedom Hall at 5 PM with all members present except Mr. Kiely.  Superintendent Chris Wiseman was also present.

The November minutes were approved.

The warrants were signed.

There were no coliform detections and no MTBE detections in November.

The following information was included in the Superintendent’s report:

……………The were no new service installations and no replacement services in November.

……………A 2” water main was installed on Sea Street by Roderick Construction.

……………Mr. Yuskus was unable to attend the meeting tonight due to illness.  He will attend next month’s meeting to discuss

the structural report performed on the Main Street tank.

Discussions on Open Cape, the new security system and the West Street tank rehabilitation project were all tabled until the January meeting when Chairman Kiely will be present.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 5:00 at Freedom Hall.
