ATTENTION COTUIT RESIDENTS

WATER MAIN FLUSHING NOTICE

The Cotuit Water Department will be flushing water mains (weather permitting):

March 30, 2026 – June 1, 2026
Monday through Friday
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Water main flushing is part of a preventive maintenance program conducted by the Water Department to help maintain water quality throughout the distribution system.

During flushing, temporary discoloration of the water may occur. This is an unavoidable effect of flushing and is aesthetic in nature only; it is not considered a health hazard. Signs will be posted in areas where flushing is taking place.

Flushing in one area can affect water conditions in surrounding neighborhoods, so residents throughout the village should be aware that temporary discoloration may occur even if our operators are not working on their street.

What Residents Should Do

• Avoid laundering between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM in areas where flushing is taking place.
  • Set aside water for drinking and cooking in advance if you are in the flushing area.
  • Check water clarity before use by running the cold water tap until it clears.
  • Do not run hot water until the cold water runs clear, as sediment can enter and settle in hot water tanks and appliances.
  • Avoid using washing machines or dishwashers until the water runs clear.

Daily flushing locations will be posted on the Cotuit Fire District website at cotuitfiredistrict.org and on Facebook at facebook.com/Cotuit-Water-Department. Customers who have an email address on file with the Water Department will also receive a daily notification when flushing is scheduled in their area.

The Cotuit Fire District, Water Department is now accepting sealed bids for the following surplus vehicle:

Bids should be submitted on the official bid form, in a sealed envelope, with the item name and number clearly written on the outside.  They can be sent to the Cotuit Fire District, Water Department at PO Box 451, Cotuit, MA 02635 or delivered to the office located at 4300 Falmouth Road, Cotuit no later than 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, when they will be opened and awarded to the highest reasonable and qualified bidder.  Final approval will be at the discretion of the Superintendent.  The winning bidder will be notified and required to submit a bank check, made payable to Cotuit Fire District no later than 7 days from notification, at which time the property will be released.  All equipment purchased must be removed within 7 days of receipt of payment, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.

The district makes no warranty, guaranty or representation of any kind, expressed or implied, as to the merchantability or fitness for any purpose of the property offered for sale.  The purchaser shall be solely responsible for any loss, claims or damages arising out of the removal or transportation of property from the sale site or the use of the same thereafter.
