Executive Session
Prudential Committee
Cotuit Fire District
19 June 2014
Chairman Parks called to order the executive committee meeting of the Cotuit Fire District, June 19, 2014, 10am, Freedom Hall 976 Main Street Cotuit. Members attending are Laurie Hadley, Fran Parks, and Marge Wallace. We are in executive committee to consider the purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property in discussion of which, in open session, may have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of a public body not to reconvene in a public session. The property we are considering is 56 High Street. The building was the Nickerson Brothers Plumbing workshop. I’m in favor of this. I think it would be an excellent move for the Fire District. I’ve talked to several people in the village who agree with that position. I’ve talked with the chairman of the BOFC on this who also agrees that this property is important for possible future expansion of the Fire Department building. The committee members agreed that it would be penny wise and pound foolish to not to present the option of purchasing the property to the District voters. There are a lot of things we have to do before we can make a final decision and funding is probably the least problematic. The first thing I think we need to do is make arrangements to view the property. The committee agreed that a building inspection and appraisal should be done prior to a final decision. The current price of the property is $316,000. Mrs. Hadley reported that in talks with real estate agents they agree $275,000 is a reasonable price and she would be willing to go to $300,000. The committee possible uses of the building would be as an office for the district. The treasurer could relocate to 56 High St… The Secretary for the Water department could come to High Street making access easier for the public than the office on Rat 28. The chairman will contact Mr. Mycock to have him make arrangements with Mr. Grover to inspect the property. The committee reviewed the Town of Barnstable Assessor listing for the property. The committee decided to have an executive session with the treasurer at the next Prudential Committee meeting. A roll call voted of the committee was conducted to close the meeting.
